Transport Your Dog Via Airplane - The Easy Way

You need to know how to transport your dog via airplane if you plan to travel with your pet or if you are getting ready to make a cross country move and your are flying. Here are some tips to help you and your dog cope with the experience.

The first thing you need to do is make sure the airline allows pets. You will need to find out what their policy is about transporting dog crates and how they do it. Most of the major airlines do have different policies so it is good to know what you are getting yourself into.

When you arrive there are two things you need to do before you board the plane and while you board the plane. Make sure you walk your dog before the flight so that it has a chance to go potty one last time. They have bathrooms for you, but not for your dog. Also, inform the crew that you are flying with your dog so that they are aware of the situation.

If your dog is a puppy or just a small dog, then you might be able to actually take them on the plane with you and either keep them in the luggage compartment in a carrier or in the seat next to you if it is empty.

Stay with your dog as long as they will let you because this is very new for your dog and they will be stressed. Make sure the staff knows how to give your dog water too because they will dehydrate faster than normal while flying.

Put something in the transportation crate that smells like you. A shirt or a toy will help your dog stay calm if they can smell you on it. This will keep your dog from getting too stressed over the flight.

Try to book flights that are straight through so that your dog does not have to be moved and can get used to flying. This helps keep your dog relaxed and will make the travel much easier on them.
