Don't forget about Santa Barbara! Only a hour and a half north of LA, Santa Barbara has a completely different vibe. It is very beachy and laid back, but still extremely upscale. Locals include Oprah and the late Michael Jackson! There is great food and even better wine. Go on a wine tour, but make sure to avoid the overpriced hotels. Try a budget-friendly hotel like The Sandman Inn (www.thesandmaninn.com) so you can save money on your lodgings and be able to spend more on shopping, food, and WINE!
