Bali Hotels : Sometimes all it takes is a Dream Villa

One of the tropical destinations of choice in Asia was and is Bali the tiny island in Indonesia.

Charming with its originality of culture and the kind friendliness of its people this tropical island attracts visitors from around the globe looking for that special dream vacation.

This current year we see travellers from the emerging economies of China and India contribute to the ever increasing arrival numbers in Bali.

The latest wave of visitors are looking increasingly for that special touch in hotels to spend the resting hours while staying on the island. The upper end of their interest are villa style accommodations located either within Bali hotels or several dedicated luxury villas.

The resulting building boom in Bali resorts is especially visible in form of small to tiny hotels that sometimes consist of as few as 5 or as many as 50 private villas, many of them with their own private pools.

Seclusion in that environment gives privacy and peace of mind and truly reflects and provides a different experience than just having a typical hotel room. Hotel rooms are usually located in a building of long alleys of rooms, villas are very individually placed and structured.

Interesting developments of the last few years are the Downtown Villas with just 9 luxury villas, The Elysian with 26 villas in that same stylish pool concept that thinks of pools as part of the "indoor experience" while actually it's more that your living room is partly in the tropical open air environment.

Then there is also the Sentosa Private Villas and Spa with 32 elegantly appointed villas that even consist of 5 bedroom villas located also in the heart of the Balinese 'villa center' of Seminyak. This beach attracts everyone that is 'hip' or are willing to become so for a while.

Other worthwhile objects of interest are the Jamahal Private Resort & Spa and the Gangsa, both with just 10 or 11 villas that offer the finer things in life such as spa treatments and gourmet kitchens.

The new contemporary Bali style of architecture is often a very stylish mixture of authentic local concepts and their materials, colors and tones with the best that western influence and comfort has to offer. The resulting concept is never less than stunning and instantly likeable and convincing.

That trend set in Bali was and still is leading world wide in development by bringing true natural ambiente and modern high-tech appliances together, and put design touches and art on top of that.

It's very much a modern utopia that actually became reality here on the island. Why anybody would want to save money on a special trip like that and stay instead in a hotel that also could resemble any other hotel located in NYC, London or Amsterdam style wise is beyond excuse.

You really would miss one of the best opportunities in life to see something completely different than most people ever are able to find in a city.

Of course there is one major point that can trouble the fun even before it starts: Many Bali Villas have such a low quantity of rooms that they basically cannot afford to accept reservations without commitment by people that change plans later on in the year.

So full pre-payment even several months before arrival is generally required to secure any of these villas. This and tough cancellation policies makes it a bit uneasy to accept in people's changing plans and schedules.

Easier terms have the established villas and villa resorts that also accept last-minute bookings without any problems. Some of these are the Bagus Jati, one of the most interesting villa resorts in Ubud the center of cultural Bali. Or also the Elysian if it has to be 'the beach' location.

How did all that local villa development come to life? It all started basically with The Oberoi Bali in Legian, that secured a big space directly on the beach ahead of the mainstream and generously layed out its gardens with private Villas and luxury Lanais. Right next to all the in-restaurants and its beach folks that are around until late clubbing through the night.

Secluded in the southern Jimbaran tip is the Ritz Carlton Bali that defined the essence of a dream vacation in style in actual reality. Not only fantastic villas on cliffs also some more affordable deluxe rooms and suites that set a standard that many Bali hotels try to recreate since then.

This resort is still the original in the 'Ritz experience' however and shows every willing student of style and life how original Bali style natural luxury should and indeed can look like.

Dave Waldheim is editor at at http://www.bali1.com/ where you can read other articles by local and expat writers that both live on this tropical island. Island destination help is useful if written in books, even more useful if it comes from someone that actually lived there over 10 years. The same goes for hotel and villa reservations as in bali hotels. Why go for the new hopeful when you can have the bali experts that care for you until everything is perfectly to your request. Some frequent travelers visit us year after year, and it all started after switching from one of these global service providers that offer any hotel in any city, without knowing any of them personally. We prefer to be practically competent and helpful so everyone enjoys and gets the best out it. And quite honest, for upmarket properties this site is also cheaper than the competition, just to prove the point that it's possible to be personal without being pricey.

Plan Your Cruise Vacation And Save Time And Money

Once you decide that you'd like to cruise, there are a number of other things to consider to enhance your cruise as well as make it go smoothly.

Naturally you need to sort out things like when and where you want to cruise as well as with which cruiseline, which ship and what things you want to do off the ship. Do you want to cruise to Alaska and watch whales or stay warm and cruise the Caribbean?

Would you rather sail on a massive ocean liner or does a smaller, more elegant vessel interest you? Are you ready to leave tomorrow or would you rather wait and search out the deals? When the ship docks in the various ports of call, will you remain on the ship, head out shopping or go on a fun filled, exciting shore excursion?

There are a few ways you can collect this information and doing the leg work up front will save you time, money and aggravation down the road I promise you that. Saving the legwork and getting right down to the good stuff is what most people are after.

I have written three books on cruising and have compiled all of the slick tricks that I've learned into the books for you to have all the info you need together in one spot. Follow the link in my resource box and have a look.

You should also search out, join and familiarize yourself with the Cruise message boards. On these boards, members will post their reviews of everything from flights to ships to shore excursions and more in great detail. Do take these reviews with a grain of salt though. Some of the people seem like they couldn't have fun anywhere!

This is an excellent way to find out about the various shore excursions. Members will report back on what tours they did, what operators they liked or disliked, any problems they had and more.

In many cases, someone on a forum will start a post called a "roll call". This is a gathering place for passengers of a specific sailing date for a specific ship and I highly recommend you search them out. If you cannot find a roll call for your cruise...create one! How you say? It's very easy...

Let's say you are cruising on the Carnival Legend from February 17th to February 24th. You would simply search for or create a post called "Carnival Legend - Feb. 17th to Feb. 24th" People will find it, trust me!

Once a few of your cruisemates find your post, you will be able to swap plans and stories, maybe learn a tips or two and maybe even make some friends. My wife and I always make a point to meet up somewhere on the ship with our roll call friends and we've remained friends with some of them to this day.

Let's not forget your friendly local travel agent. Sure you can research and book your flights and cruises all by yourself online, but if you find it overwhelming, don't be afraid to let the professionals take care of you.

Sometimes paying a few extra dollars is worth it to know that someone else has taken care of the details. My guides and the forum participation will still insure that you are able to make informed decisions.

Before you go

I'm generally not a paranoid person, but would like to share a few security tips that could help keep things secure while you're on your vacation. Before you leave for your cruise, it might be a good idea to call the post office and have them stop delivery of your mail.

If you haven't arranged for someone to come and get your mail while they feed your pets, you might want to look into that. A large pile of mail sticking out of your mailbox is telling sign for thieves to come and rip you off.

Your home phone should either have the ringer turned off or have you answering machine set to pick up on two rings. This could reduce the risk of someone figuring out that you're not home.

If you happen to live in a snowy part of the world, your driveway might get snowy while you're gone and if you haven't got any tire tracks in your driveway, this could be all the indication thieves need to know it's safe to enter your home.

Rather than rely on mail stoppages, answering machines and light timers, I prefer to keep things looking natural while away. I always have a friend come over to get the mail and feed the cat as a minimum. If they are a really good friend, they'll shovel the driveway and walk, but people don't like to do their own shoveling let alone yours, so why not have it done?

One way is to pay the neighbour kid a flat rate to keep it shoveled while you're gone. Letting his/her parents know when you'll be leaving and returning as well as what you've asked to have done is probably not a bad idea.

If you know someone with a plow or have a local plow service, you can ask them to come scrape your driveway after each snow. I guess if you're really cheap, you could just have the friend drive on your driveway when they come to get the mail.

At any rate, chances are that someone isn't lying in the bushes waiting for you to go on vacation so you'll have to gauge the risk and do what gives you piece of mind.

Next time I'll cover packing and preparing for your cruise. If you want to cut to the chase and get right into the info, stop by http://www.cruisevacationparadise.com/ and pick up one or all of my cruise ship tips books. They contain a vast amount of information that will allow you to select and prepare for the cruise vacation of a life time! Until next time, be well and happy cruising!

Paradise is just a sail away!

4 Tips For Fantastic Family Cruises

Although there are all sorts of different kinds of cruises you can go on family cruises are by far the most favorite. What can be better than bringing all the kids with you on an adventure of a lifetime?

Not only are there are so many different and exciting places all over the world to visit -- it's one of those relatively inexpensive family vacation ideas.

All inclusive family vacations can be great if you go with the right company. With the right cruise line you should be able to get everything on your family cruises for one price.

All your meals
Entertainment
Exciting shipboard activities

And more...

Call a travel agent to help you plan your trip.

Especially if this is going to be your first cruise you will probably want to hire a cruise specialist.
That way you'll be comfortable knowing that all the little details are taken care of so you will be able to get the very most out of your family cruises.

Basic Information

There are a number of things that you will want to go over with your travel agent before taking one of these all inclusive family vacations. You always want to check.

The size and location of your stateroom
If there are guardrails on the beds.

This is especially important if you have younger children who will be sleeping in them. No child is really too young to go on a cruise but you will have to decide as to whether you feel it's safe to bring a newborn baby or a toddler on one of these kid friendly cruises. Remember that you are going to want to look after them the whole time and that can be kind of tough.

Documentation

You will also need to ask your travel agent what kind of documentation is necessary for the family cruises. You will have to bring along all this necessary information for every family member.

Be especially careful you and your children are crossing borders if you are the only parent on the trip.

If that's the case even more information is usually required.

Budget

Family cruises are affordable family vacations and you can get great family cruise deals.

If you want to have the best family cruise you still need to decide where you want to go, which cruise line you want to travel on and how much extra money you will need to put aside to spend on your trip.

Bring a comfortable amount but don't go overboard. It shouldn't affect other bills because this can only end up causing problems. Keep in mind though that you will need to budget for some additional things like shore excursions, tips, extra food, along with infant care if you decide to bring babies along.

Ski Vacations - How to Rent Ski Equipment

Ski vacations will require ski equipment. But whether you buy your ski equipment or rent it will depend, for the most part, on whether you're a beginning skier or a pro on the slopes. If you're a beginner or just trying out the sport, it will probably make more sense for you to rent the equipment before investing your money in what can be an expensive purchase.

Many local ski shops rent ski equipment, and they may even have lease packages where you can lease everything you need for an entire season of skiing. This can be an excellent option of those who take several ski vacations a year.

One advantage of renting at a local shop near you is that it'll probably be less expensive and you can pick up your equipment ahead of time instead of waiting in long lines and paying higher rental prices when you get to the ski resort.

The downside of renting locally is transporting your ski equipment from home to the resort. Some ski resort shops allow their customers to store their equipment during the day or overnight for free, which is a nice benefit when you return from a tiring day on the slopes.

Most rental packages will include skis, boots and poles. You should have a choice of beginner or performance skis. Most shops have equipment for junior skiers. Skiing helmets may be available for an additional charge. That extra expense is well worth the safety you'll enjoy by wearing a helmet.

Many parents make sure their children who are skiing wear helmets whether they want to or not. There is always a chance when the slopes are full that accidents and collisions will happen.

Keep in mind that when you sign up for ski lessons at a resort, many packages will include the price for equipment that you can use all day. Most instructors will make sure that you are completely outfitted before taking you out to the slopes. Ski vacations that include lessons for beginners can be fun for the whole family!

Rental equipment usually includes skis, ski boots, ski poles and helmets.

Skiers will usually have the option of renting items individually or as a package. Many resorts also offer combinations of different ski equipment items such as skis and boots, helmets and poles, skis and poles, etc. Some ski resorts will offer full-day prices or prices for afternoon-only skiing.

Some packages will cost as little as $20 per day, others can cost $50 or more for 24 hours. Some ski resorts automatically add on damage insurance for a few dollars per day; it may be worthwhile to take the insurance if you are a beginning skier.

If you refuse insurance, just a minor accident could cost you much more than it would have cost if you had paid for the insurance to begin with.

Plan ahead and reserve your ski rental equipment in advance, especially during peak season. That way you'll know for sure that the equipment you want is available and ready when you get there to pick it up.

Discount Hotel Coupons - Top 5 Places To Find Savings

Almost every hotel and motel chain in the world offer discount coupons to the public. The problem for most people is finding them before taking the vacation!

While the savings are usually between 5 and 20%, having an additional $10 or $20 per night can add up over a week-long vacation. Here are 5 great places to look for discount hotel coupons before your next trip.

Start with a Travel Agent

Local travel agents spend their entire day making sure that people plan their vacations through an agent. At the same time, hotels are constantly competing for your business and need to find ways to attract your consumer dollars. Hotels and motels need to be creative and get their brand and offers into the hands of the experts. By offering discount hotel coupons to travel agents and other travel service advisors, they are able to increase their brand awareness and have more rooms sold!

Local Tourism Offices

The secret is out! Local tourism offices not only offer advice on where to stay and what to do but also have great special offers for rooms and other attractions. You can get free passes, maps, attraction savings and, you guessed it, great hotel discount coupons. Very often, state tourism offices will create a "pass book" of local attractions for the public. Inside, they allow hotels and motels to advertise their hotels - in exchange for special offers to customers.

You can even find "get your second night free" for midweek stays or restaurant offers. Either way, phone the local tourism office and ask them to mail a discount coupon book well before you travel.

Airlines and other travel services

Airlines are the kings of forming partnerships and sweetening the offer. Be it a airline-hotel-rental car partnership or some other combination, there are many great deals if you take advantage. When you're booking your plane ticket, make sure to check out their "deals" or "special offers" section for cheap hotel rates, car rental or attraction passes.

Web Savings

We have arrived in the digital age! There are literally thousands of places to find discount hotel coupons online. Your best bet is to go to Google and type in "Discount Hotel Coupons" into your browser. This will result in a large number of different service providers who continually update their database with new offers. Many websites also provide ongoing information about how to save when you travel.

Ask the Hotels!

Usually, the best place to start is at the hotel directly. If you're looking for a discount hotel coupon and have been unable to find anything, give them a call and ask about your options. Credit Card membership? Frequent flier cards? Roadside assistance? Senior Citizen? Veterans?

The people and memberships that offer discount hotel rooms these days are growing steadily so make sure you get all the information up front. If they have an offer, they will be more than happy to add the discount to your file.

Final Thoughts

Finding discount hotel coupons for almost anywhere in the world is easy once you know where to look. Using these 5 places as a starting point, you will be sure to save on your travels!

Advice For Choosing Between Tours Vs Hotels

Deciding where to go for a relaxing vacation can actually be stressful in and of itself. And if you are a part of a couple, then reaching an agreement on where to go could get downright frustrating.

The options can get overwhelming: there are European backpacking excursions, Serengeti safaris and Adventure cruises to choose from. Planning ahead and being organized can go a long way in a vacation search.

Write down a list of the places where you think you would get the most relaxation and pleasure out of visiting. You could even seek the advice of a travel agent and seek information, negative and positive, about a potential vacation spot.

After the initial search and research, you should place the vacation spot options in order of the best to the worst. The negatives should play a really big part in your decision making process because something that may seem small will loom large once the vacation begins. So do not make oversights when it comes to what you foresee might be an issue on a trip. Make honest assessments.

Your budget should also wield a lot of influence over your vacation decision. Make sure to make decisions that will be financially sound and responsible. There is no sense in spending extravagantly for a relaxing vacation only to come back home from it stressed out over spending money that you did not have.

A working budget for a vacation should include an extra padding of money that is "just-in-case" money. Because of the multitude of location options, a budget will determine whether or not a trip can be taken overseas or only within one's native country. And after the bulk of money is spent on the expenses of the ticket to the destination, one must keep in mind that money will or might be needed for travel, food, doctor trips if necessary, and souvenir expenses.

After comparing and contrasting the money that each type of trip might cost, one will gain more insight as to what will be worth the value of it.

The adventure travel vacation can take many forms because that is the nature of them: they are unconventional and carry a certain risk to them. That is wherein the thrill lies. You can kayak not far from glaciers in Alaska or you can go to South America to brave the rapids of the Amazon River instead.

One can engage in such enthralling activities, or one can instead indulge in a location's top-notch restaurants and plush offerings of its all inclusive hotels. It is all about what aspects of a vacation are most important to you.

Adventure Travel cruises provide something that a stay in a luxury hotel in a place like Europe does not have: options.

If you pick an Egyptian cruise on the Nile, your room is not stationary. Instead, the pyramids are suddenly outside your window and you are able to go explore and photograph them with a guide leading the way.

An ecological tour is what you will find where rain forests are ventured into on an Amazon River cruise. Adventure cruises give a traveler choice and easy access to the destinations they desire. That is why it is important to think thoroughly about what you want out of adventure travel excursion so as to get the most out of it.

However, you would instead opt for the luxury hotel in any one of them offered across Europe. But you will have to think about what type transportation you will use that is the most financially sound and which destinations to visit. That is what a cruise can offer you: access to the best, little known and seen sights that a stay at a luxury hotel might not yield.

Planning your vacation and the locations you want to visit is not a challenge because all you have to do is sit and write and organized itinerary. But finding the right travel package could be difficult as you might not know all of the venues that could provide the exact trip you want.

A travel agent could give you the sources that will lead you to the best deals for exactly what you want. Or become a member of a travel club member which should offer information and resources that you can research yourself.

The Better Business Bureau, friends/relatives, and the Chamber of Commerce are where you can find information and leads on dependent travel agents in and around your local neighborhood.

Sexy Santorini - A Vacation Destination That Gets the Pulse Racing!

What makes Santorini so sexy?

This Greek Island is full of sexy girls and boys who have left their inhibitions behind. The sultry heat, romantic sunsets and pulsating nightlife build to a crescendo of red-hot sexual energy.

This explosive eruption rivals that of the famous volcano that shaped the Island itself.

It's little wonder then that the Island gets the nickname of Sexy Santorini, and was recently proclaimed by Forbes as one of the top 10 sexiest islands in the world.

Sexy Santorini Hotspots

Fira, the capital of the Island, easily mixes cool with hot, and things really start to heat up after midnight.

Celebs like Tara Reid and Paris Hilton have danced the night away here into the wee small hours.

The Koo Club and Enigma nightclub are well known to attract the young and the beautiful, so follow your ears and listen for the sounds of disco music in the little streets of Fira, and you'll soon find your way there.

Tango is another popular hotspot in Santorini. Here you can dance inside or outside -- either way, you will generate plenty of heat.

There's a range of musical tastes in Fira. The Casablanca Soul sometimes has live funk and soul bands while Taj Mahal plays an eclectic mix of international and Greek music.

Away from Fira are the steamy resorts of Perissa and Kamari. In Kamari the liveliest hotspot is the Dom Club where you can enjoy a mix of music styles.

Perissa has a fabulous nightspot named Taboo. It boasts of its popularity in typical Greek fashion, and claims the secret to its success is "the rule of the bar is none leaves displeased."

Sexy Santorini Beaches

Hot black sand draped with beautiful bronzed beach babes is the order of the day on Santorini beaches. And don't be surprised if there are fewer tops than bottoms where swimwear is concerned.

Red Beach in Santorini is often voted one of the top ten topless beaches in the world. The beaches of Perissa and Kamari are also famous for their topless beach babes too.

Naturism, although not actively encouraged on Santorini's beaches, is tolerated in some places. Koloumbo Beach near Oia is said to be a very naturist-friendly beach. So if you want to go completely nude, try it here.

Other top Santorini beaches are Katharos, near Oia. Or in the south try Vlychada, or White Beach, which lies just beyond Red Beach at Akrotiri.

Sexy Santorini Luxury Spa Hotels

To prepare you for the rigours of beach lounging by day, and partying all night, Santorini has some top luxury hotels with fabulous spa facilities. Be prepared to have your body buffed, massaged, scrubbed and pummelled to get it ready for action.

Try the algae and volcanic mud wraps at the Notos Spa Hotel at Vlychada beach.

The Santorini Princess Luxury Spa Hotel Resort in Imerovigli has essential oil treatments, body waxing and spa therapies, as well as special wellness packages for brides and grooms.

Can't stretch to the pricey luxury spa treatments? Then try the free ones!

At the extinct volcano of Palea Kameni there's totally natural and free volcanic mud baths and hot springs. Boat excursions will take you from Fira Port to see the active volcano of Nea Kameni which stops off at Palea Kameni for the chance of some free, natural and safe indulgence.

Sexy Santorini Singles

If you are single then don't think that Santorini is not for you. Although known as a couple's destination and the wedding and Honeymoon Island, for singles, Santorini is a great place to find that special sexy someone you've been searching for.

Sexy Santorini Gay Scene

Santorini still extends a warm gay friendly welcome to gay and lesbian couples.

Although there are no gay bars as such on Santorini, all are gay friendly, in particular the fabulous Tropical at Fira, which boasts a fantastic sea view and brilliant ambiance.

All the Greek Islands are welcoming to the gay scene, particularly Mykonos for gay men, and Lesvos for lesbian women.

Santorini is no exception.

Many gay and lesbian couples feel very welcome and comfortable in this, the ultimate sexy, romantic holiday destination. Many choose Santorini to hold their commitment ceremonies, or to enjoy their Santorini celebration and honeymoon, after marrying in their home country.

More refined, less frantic, and far less predictable than the Gay Mecca of Mykonos, Santorini can be a super place for a holiday vacation regardless of your sexuality.

So, if you want a sexy vacation, think about Sexy Santorini -- the ultimate romantic Greek Island.

5 Ways To Get Cheap Disneyland Tickets

Going to Disneyland can be an incredibly expensive trip for the family, especially when you factor in admission tickets, accommodation, food, souvenirs and other essential expenses for the typical vacation to The Happiest Place on Earth.

To help alleviate your financial worries, here are the top 5 ways to get cheap Disneyland tickets.

Consider staying at one of the Disneyland hotels. Although they can be more costly over other hotels within Anaheim, the package deals (which includes single and multiple day hopper passes to both Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure) will save you a lot of money. Staying at these hotels will also greatly improve your vacation thanks to it's easy accessibility to the parks.

Pre-purchase your tickets on the official Disneyland website. You'll save up to $40 off tickets when you buy 8 days prior to your planned date.

If you plan on visiting other theme parks within the area (such as Knotts Berry Farm and Sea World), purchase a Southern California City Pass. In addition to a three-day pass to Disneyland, you also get tickets to Knotts Berry Farm, Sea World and San Diego Zoo.

If you are visiting with someone that has a military affiliation or background, you'll be able to enjoy huge discounts on Disneyland tickets.

Browse around on the internet. There are always people that sell their unused or unwanted passes and are almost always willing to give it away for next to nothing. It is a great way to acquire discount Disneyland tickets, especially if you look in the right places such as forums and auction sites.

Booking a Tour Through a Travel Consolidator

When you are ready to book your summer vacation, it is likely that you are going to choose either a travel agency or an online discount site. However, there is one option which may be ideal for you that you do not even know about and that is a travel consolidator.

Understanding Travel Consolidators

Basically a travel consolidator is a high-volume ticket broker. They tend to purchase a large number of tickets and then sell them to consumers for a lower price than most published fares. So by purchasing from a ticket consolidator you could potentially save a lot of money on travel and perhaps even on a tour in your chosen destination.

The reason that a travel consolidator can afford to sell tickets so cheaply is because when they purchase such a large number of tickets, they get a good discount. It is possible that some travel consolidators even have a contract with different airline companies because they purchase so many tickets form them.

However, when you look for information on travel consolidators, you will notice that they only tend to buy tickets for popular destinations. After all, they need to know that the large number of tickets that they purchase will actually sell, so they are not going to purchase tickets for an unknown location.

Generally airlines will have more than one travel consolidator dealing with them. This is basically to ensure that the flights will be fully booked as there is often a worry that seats will be left empty on various flights. So if a consolidator can sell the tickets really cheaply then there is less chance that the flight will be left empty.

You may be wondering how travel consolidators make their money when they are selling the tickets so cheaply. Well because the discount that they get for purchasing a large number of tickets is quite significant, they can afford to sell the tickets really cheaply and still make a profit. In fact some travel consolidators even sell the tickets for ordinary published prices which mean that they make even more of a profit. They mainly sell to travel agencies and members of the public. Some travel consolidators even sell their tickets online too.

Overall if you can find a travel consolidator then you may well be able to save quite a lot of money on your next vacation. However there are different types of travel consolidators and some will be better than others. This means that you should look and see which travel consolidators have been reviewed on various comparison websites and see which ones sound the most reliable to go with.

A Law-Abiding Package Holiday

A package holiday is, by definition, a pre-arranged holiday comprising of at least two components booked together, such as the flight to the destination and the accommodation itself. While package holidays can sometimes be more expensive than booking each part individually yourself, there are more safeguards in place should anything go wrong.

The law states that a package holiday which is offered by a tour operator must be of a reasonable standard, and match the description given in the brochure.

For example; if the brochure states that the hotel has a sea-view from each room, then this must be so. If the hotel is classified as a luxury hotel, then it must not be of a basic budget standard. If the hotel is a budget hotel, common standards of hygiene must still apply - sharing a suite with half the local insect population and 3 varieties of fungi are not classed as common standards of hygiene.

Once you have booked your holiday with the tour operator, you have entered into a legally binding contract and both parties must adhere to certain terms and conditions. The travel agent must make you fully aware of the booking conditions, usually printed in the brochure, and provide you with any information you may require which relates to your holiday.

This includes notifying you if there are any dissimilarities between the brochure description and the current state of the resort i.e. if the hotel is having building work done or the swimming pool is closed for some reason. If this is the case, you are entitled to an alternative holiday of comparative value, or a refund.

There is often confusion about the price of a package holiday; the price advertised doesn't always include all the non-essential yet rather important extras such as airport transfers, in-flight meals, and even the privilege of being able to sit with your family on the plane.

The 'from' price is more often than not the price for the absolute basic flight and bed package - made glaringly obvious to lure the unsuspecting tourist into a holiday which, in reality, could work out much more expensive.

Fortunately, once you've sorted out exactly what you're paying for and have handed over the money, you should be protected if the price was to rise significantly. This means that if you book your holiday a while in advance, and the price rises in the meantime, your travel agent cannot charge you extra to cover this, unless it specifically says this is allowed in the booking conditions.

Even then, if the increase is due to anything other than rising fuel costs, landing fees or the exchange rate, you cannot be charged. The first 2% must also be absorbed by the agent and anything over 10% increase will automatically entitle you to a refund without a cancellation penalty, or a replacement holiday at the original price.

Be aware that some tour operators try to push travel insurance on you at the time of booking, and may make you think this is compulsory. It isn't. While travel insurance is always highly recommended, you can usually get a better deal looking for it yourself, as agents tend to charge a fee on top of the premiums, meaning you could be paying much more than necessary.

Although you may be tempted to avoid package holidays altogether and book everything yourself, should something go wrong with your holiday you have more of a financial safety net if you book a full package. Finding cheap holidays with an ABTA registered travel company is easy if you browse online.

Vacation Tips For South Africa - Johannesburg

If you have not traveled to Africa before, be ready for an overwhelming impact. It is truly a world apart.. Do not even try to picture or imagine what it will be like, because you will certainly not be able to seize the experience.

Large heaps of yellowish dirt which came from the mines when gold was brought to the surface over the years, is one of the first things you will see when approaching Johannesburg in Gauteng province. Another obvious landmark is the J.G. Strijdom Tower that forms an integral part of the Johannesburg skyline.

Johannesburg is where you will enter South Africa for a vacation and is also the place about 6 million people call home. Egoli, The City of Gold, is built on the richest gold reef ever disclosed. Most of the mines lie to the south and west of Johannesburg, some as deep as 3.5 kilometers (just more than 2 miles).

Johannesburg is a boisterous, brilliant, throbbing city and houses the Stock Exchange, being the Financial focus of the country. You will notice extremely rich people in Johannesburg in areas like Houghton where Nelson Mandela lives, but also thousands living in the most impoverished state imaginable. Definitely a city of extreme contrasts.

It is not a scenic city but that is scarcely evident because of its very busy social and arts scene. There are a number of theatres and 5 star hotels including the Sandton Sun and Towers in Sandton City, a very popular and powerful complex.

Vendors line the streets with their wares and flea markets can be spotted at regular intervals. Anything from fresh produce to African art to Chinese mass produced baubles can be bought here and it constitutes a crucial part of the "informal economy" and city life, just as the luxurious malls do.

Gold Reef City, which was reconstructed on the site of Crown Mines, a deserted mining company, captures the heart of the early gold era with theme parks, museums, bars and lodging and are one of the few places where you can attend a dance by miners in traditional dress in the Gold Mine Museum. You can also come here to see a genuine bar of gold being poured! Not a lot of people have that privilege. Unquestionably worth a visit with lots to do for just about everybody. Be sure to spend at least a day.

There are several large soccer stadiums scattered throughout Johannesburg as this is a very popular sport and the stadiums are being updated and new ones built in preparation for the Soccer World Cup in 2010 which will take place in South Africa.

Bruma Lake is like a little town consisting of restaurants, pubs and specialty shops in a setting surrounding a small lake with an impressive water feature and is nice for a leisurely visit. Maybe for a slower day, recovering from jetlag?

Johannesburg Zoo is worth a visit as well with a large selection of rare African animals, birds and reptiles. If your timing is right, you may be treated to a Saturday of Art in the Park where up and coming artists and established artists alike display their pieces in a wonderful outdoor setting. Original art is still very inexpensive and not that hard to find at all.

About an hour from the city one can find an art trail where you can visit unique art studios and can even join in the experience of an artist producing an incredible piece. Mixed in with the studios are very elegant tearooms with special homemade pastries and goodies, to enjoy a drink and rest the tired legs. In the same vicinity is Hartebeespoort Dam which is worth a visit as well.
People watching will no doubt fascinate you if you fail to find anything else to do in Johannesburg. Make sure you plan your vacation to visit some of the exquisite luxury resorts to be spoiled and pampered to make the most of your travels.

Top Things to Do in Cambodia

There are so many exciting sights in Cambodia that you'll hardly find yourself without things to do. Just scrambling around the ruins at Angkor can keep you busy for days if not weeks, or you can climb up for a bird's-eye view of the complex by hot-air balloon.

The country is beautiful, and even more incredible for rising out of the intense history of war and genocide. Take time to visit major sites that give you a glimpse into the history of the country, but also make sure you get to meet some of the friendly and positive people who have weathered through the history.

Cook Khmer-style curry or other cuisine

There are plenty of Khmer cooking classes in the capital, held in English or French. The Frizz restaurant on Sisowath Quay operates some of the most popular courses and will have you creating an amok fish curry to die for.

Explore the temples at Angkor

You could spend oodles of time watching the sunrises and the sunsets at this amazing temple complex. Especially if you're interested in photography, there is so much to see and so many nooks to explore. Hire a guide for a day or two to hear the stories behind the temples.

Fire a rocket launcher or M-16

You won't find a lot of places in the world where you can go crazy firing weaponry. There are two venues that offer this bizarre form of entertainment, one in Phnom Penh and one in Siem Reap.

Get high over Angkor

The best way to see Angkor by far is from the air. It's a spectacular sight that you will remember for the rest of your life. The tethered hot-air balloon offers a budget way to soar above the temples for about 15 minutes; or you can go all out with a helicopter tour.

Hold your nose at Stung Meanchey Garbage Dump

Your entire outlook on life will change in this one visit. Shocking, alarming and filled with despair, this garbage dump is an example of how many of Cambodia's children spend their time - sifting through garbage all day long to survive. If your kids complain about going to school, they probably won't after they see this. Donations can also be made to the humanitarian organisation Pour Sourire D'un Enfant at their onsite office.

Ride an elephant

If you've never ridden an elephant, there's no experience quite like it. The activity is most popular in Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri. Be sure to go with a reputable company and take a guide as land mines and other dangers may spoil your day. You can also ride an elephant around Angkor or at the zoo on Mekong Island, a daytrip from the capital.

Take a sunset cruise along the Mekong river

One-hour cruises are available and will give you great insight on the lives of the people living on and around the river. The sunset is especially brilliant from the boat and this is a relaxing way to end your day.

Visit the Memorial at Choeung Ek

Located 15kms from Phnom Penh, this is a memorial to those who died in the infamous Killing Fields. Here you can view around 8,000 skulls arranged by sex and age behind a glass panel.

Visit the Stone and Woodcarving School in Siem Reap

This is a great place to see how stone and wood is carved into reproductions of the ancient Khmer temple carvings. Prices are cheap and you'll be supporting a good cause.

Volunteer for a good cause or donate blood

There are numerous NGOs and charity organisations doing good work in Cambodia. Additionally, only about one-third of the country's requirement for blood is being met, so you can make a donation at the Cambodian Red Cross to help.

Watch traditional Khmer theatre

A few different venues in the city offer the chance to watch Khmer performances with the most popular being the Aspara Theatre at the Angkor Village Resort, which is also a restaurant. The evening shows feature a wealth of traditionally dressed performers, meaning there is lots of gold finery on display and the chance to experience classical Khmer music and dance.

Watch traditional Khmer kickboxing

Khmer traditional boxing, or Pradal Serey, has made a huge comeback since it was banned by the Khmer Rouge. The biggest fights are held at the Olympic Stadium, but you can find smaller bouts at other venues too, so ask around.

The Finest Holidays Can Be Inexpensive Too

Every body needs to take a break from everyday affairs to reconnect with the spouse or the children and rejuvenate their own spirit.

But when one is planning a vacation for the purpose the whole thing might turn out to be stressful if the problem of expenditure crops up. Only the airfare is enough to nip the whole dream.

To top it when others come up with issues like food, accommodation and shopping, the mother prefers to sit back rather than go on a holiday!

Now there are some options open for enjoying fun times out of home without much air fares.

Cheap Airfare

How does low-cost air fare operate precisely? Budget air travel simply gets one to the destination in the shortest time and at the cheapest rate.

The concept of no frills business is the sole reason why these airlines can keep their tickets costs so low. Firstly no reservation offices are there to sustain; the transactions are all carried out online. This process of e-ticketing curtails the necessity of hiring and maintaining employees at the desk. And you are the one who receives the benefit in the form of cheap air tickets. So make full use of this opportunity whenever you get it.

But other than these budget air travels people can also avail discounts on air tickets.

Here is how:

1. If a traveler buys the air ticket at least 10 days before the scheduled date of departure then he might avail a fairly good discount. So it pays to plan and buy your tickets early on.

2. A weekday departure is ideal for people who want to avail a fair deal in the price of the tickets. Weekday seats are filled at a slower rate and airlines often offer huge discounts, as opposed to weekend seats.

3. Reserving tickets in bulk that is at least for 3 to 4 people together brings in chances for discount. That sounds much like a holiday, now doesn't it?

4. Sometimes people consult with friends and notes as well before going for purchasing tickets.

5. The Internet also provides authentic information regarding the discounted rates of air fares. Cheap air tickets are often available through online transactions.

6. Before reserving tickets at the first go people must check out thoroughly. The overall services provided by the airlines are to be checked. Sometimes cheap priced airlines offer very poor service to the passengers on board.

These bring us to a conclusion that low cost air fares make vacation a considerably plausible idea for many families. Whether going to Spain in search of an authentic paella recipe or to Texas to find home on the range, all they need to do is to just carefully check before taking the plunge. And there is a whole new vacation to be enjoyed without worrying about money matters.

Being particularly interested in chicken paella recipe and paella ingredients, Greg Hansward is writing several news stories on the topic. You can discover his writings on paella recipe at various other sources for paella recipe knowledge.

Some Thoughts on Airport Parking

You know the old saying, take the bus and leave the driving to us. Well I've got a good one. Taking the plane shouldn't drive you insane.

With a little extra planning and research when making my travel arrangements, I can actually book airport parking online and get free shuttle service to the airport that includes help with my luggage. It makes my trip even more enjoyable and stress-free.

If you live in the city, you're all too familiar with parking problems. But you don't need that aggravation when you travel. Getting to the airport can be a trip in itself. But when you book your airport parking online in advance, you'll know where you're going to park your car, and have shuttle service and help with your luggage.

If you're not a morning person, having an early flight can mean getting up in the middle of the night to get to the airport in time. One solution could be staying at a nearby airport hotel that provides free parking and shuttle service to the airport. You could probably sleep a couple of hours later and still be there in plenty of time with the hotel wake-up call. If your flight plans include a late night arrival, you might consider staying over at an airport hotel and get some sleep before you head back home.

Either way, I know I have to book my airport parking online. It just absolutely takes all the worry out of my vacation and helps me begin enjoying my trip from the moment I arrive. No more wishing that I'll find a parking spot close by and wondering how I'm going to manage all that luggage. I get help with my luggage, shuttled to the airport, and then back to my car when the trip is over. What could be better than that! With airport parking fees on the rise, it's worth a try. I'm glad I tried it, and I'll always be glad I did.

Transport Your Dog Via Airplane - The Easy Way

You need to know how to transport your dog via airplane if you plan to travel with your pet or if you are getting ready to make a cross country move and your are flying. Here are some tips to help you and your dog cope with the experience.

The first thing you need to do is make sure the airline allows pets. You will need to find out what their policy is about transporting dog crates and how they do it. Most of the major airlines do have different policies so it is good to know what you are getting yourself into.

When you arrive there are two things you need to do before you board the plane and while you board the plane. Make sure you walk your dog before the flight so that it has a chance to go potty one last time. They have bathrooms for you, but not for your dog. Also, inform the crew that you are flying with your dog so that they are aware of the situation.

If your dog is a puppy or just a small dog, then you might be able to actually take them on the plane with you and either keep them in the luggage compartment in a carrier or in the seat next to you if it is empty.

Stay with your dog as long as they will let you because this is very new for your dog and they will be stressed. Make sure the staff knows how to give your dog water too because they will dehydrate faster than normal while flying.

Put something in the transportation crate that smells like you. A shirt or a toy will help your dog stay calm if they can smell you on it. This will keep your dog from getting too stressed over the flight.

Try to book flights that are straight through so that your dog does not have to be moved and can get used to flying. This helps keep your dog relaxed and will make the travel much easier on them.

Top 4 Dangerous Airports

For every great thing in the world, there are equivalents which are not so pleasant.

For every top-of-the-line cell phone model, there's one with the barest of features and will probably cause cancer!

For every wonderful, sparkling, luxurious resort there's a beach near a crime-ridden area, filled with litter and an old house near it to rent.

And for every large airport filled with amenities and safety precautions, there are ones which are essentially an airstrip and a building. Here are those airports that have earned the title of most dangerous in the world.

1. Lukla Airport, Nepal - The people who attempt to climb Mount Everest know this place very well. Renamed in January 2008 as Tenzing-Hillary airport, after the two men who first ascended the highest mountain in the world, this airport is where all Everest climber aspirants land to start their journey.

The runway is around half a kilometer long, 20m wide, with an incline being a staggering 20%! With a 700-meter drop on one end and a mountain in the other, and the airport being so high up, this is another added risk to adventurers. There have been five recorded plane accidents. Nevertheless, the people who do come here consider it as part of the risk they signed up for.

2. Courchevel, France - A ski area in the French Alps, it is the largest linked ski area in the world. This is the first resort in France to be constructed from scratch, as opposed to the others which were built around an already existing village.

Courchevel's airport is infamous for having a short runway of around half a kilometer and a gradient of 18.5%! Pilots have to land on the higher incline to slow down enough, and takeoffs must be done towards the decline to pick up speed.

3. Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, Saba - The only airport in Saba, in the Caribbean, it is well-known to flyers because of the methods of landing and taking off for the small airport. There have been no tragedies there, but it is still very dangerous. One side has high hills while all the others drop into the sea.

The runway length is a bone-chilling 396m, only allowing small aircraft and helicopters to land! The tower is an advisory service only and does not provide air traffic control. You also can't refuel, so tough luck if you run out.

4. Princess Juliana International Airport, Saint Martin - A very busy airport in the Eastern Caribbean, it is a major gateway for other airports nearby. 5 Tips to Avoid Swollen Feet on an Airplane

It is fairly common to have your feet and ankles swell during long airline flights. It's an uncomfortable and sometimes painful side effect of sitting for long periods in a cramped airplane seat.

The swelling or edema is caused mainly because of inactivity. When a person walks, the contraction of the muscles in the legs compresses the veins and helps in counteracting gravity in order to move blood back to the heart.

Also the way your legs and feet are positioned when seated increases the pressure in your veins and contributes to fluids moving from the blood into the surrounding tissues of the legs and feet.

In addition to swelling, sitting motionless for long periods of time increases your risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis or DVT. DVT is a serious and often fatal condition where a blood clot forms in a vein deep within the muscles, usually in the calf or thigh.

The following tips will help keep your feet and ankles from swelling and will have you comfortably slipping those shoes back on at the end of your flight!

1. Get up and move around - For every hour of your flight you should try to get up and move around for 3 to 4 minutes before sitting back down.

2. Get blood circulating by doing exercises while in your seat - If you're not able to get up and out of your seat every hour, there are simple exercises you can do to get the blood circulating in your lower extremities. Pointing and flexing your feet as well as rotating your ankles in circles are a good start. Check the back of your in-flight magazine. The airlines usually dedicate at least a page or two to exercises you can do while sitting in your seat.

3. Stay Hydrated- Dehydration causes blood vessels to narrow and blood to thicken. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid alcoholic or caffeinated beverages as they contribute to dehydration.

4. Avoid regular socks - Regular socks that have a constricting elastic band around the calf or ankle will not only become uncomfortable after a while, but will decrease circulation to and thereby increase the swelling.

5. Wear compression socks - Graduated compression socks are special stockings that help promote circulation in your legs. The stockings apply a certain amount of pressure near your ankle and then apply gradually less and less pressure as they move up the leg. The graduated pressure helps push the blood back up the leg and therefore prevents swelling. These aren't your grandma's support stockings. They come in many styles, colors, function (such as athletic) and pressure. Finally, if your feet DO swell, soak them in a tub of Epsom salts. Remember that swelling is caused by too much fluid being retained in the body. When you soak your feet in the Epsom salts, the salt draws water out of the body and is a natural way to reduce swelling.
